At the moment I’m working on the pre production of my latest short film which will involve an imitation firearm as well as a scene where a real gun will be fired. Here in Australia gun laws are very strict and using any sort of weapon on set whether real or imitation requires the consent of a credited armourer and the local police department.
A film armourer is basically the guy who is responsible for supplying the weaponry needs for a film and also ensures the safety and authenticity of the items being used.
Below is a neat little video for the AMC series ‘Hell on Wheels’ where on-set armourer Brian Kent discusses some of the Old West weaponry used by the characters in the show. I hope you find this interesting!
